STRIKE TEAM READY TO RESPOND
AT PRESIDENTIAL SPEECH

Five members of the Coast Guard's Atlantic Strike Team are assisting Coast Guard Sector Baltimore in air monitoring in the Washington, D.C. area during the Presidential speech Tuesday.

The Fort Dix, N.J.-based team members are air monitoring for contaminants and radiation detection in various locations throughout the metropolitan area in case of a terrorist attack.  The two-person survey teams will monitor atmospheric conditions for substances that may be adverse to the general population.

The AST, as well as the other two strike teams in the National Strike Force, have performed similar missions to enhance safety at nationally significant events such as the Presidential Inauguration, the Democratic and Republican National Conventions and major sporting events.
