ATLANTIC STRIKE TEAM RESPONDS TO GROUNDED VESSEL

Four members of the Atlantic Strike Team deployed to assist Coast Guard Sector Southern New England in removing fuel from a fishing vessel that grounded Monday near Point Judith, R.I.

Due to the extent of damage to Blue Sea, a 67-foot commercial fishing vessel, its 3,000 gallons of fuel onboard is considered a potential threat to Narragansett Bay and will be offloaded.  Contractors with support from Coast Guard teams will attempt to transfer the fuel at a distance of 300 feet to a tanker truck onshore.

The Fort Dix, N.J., based AST members are providing contractor oversight and command organizational support to the Sector.  The members are also providing technical assistance onboard the Coast Guard Cutter Willow in pre-staging oil recovery equipment as a precautionary measure.
